Today at the office I was sent a link to a web hosting and design company that one of our clients had decided to switch to. No worries about losing this client. It’s the classic story of a customer who was not happy with his old provider when he moved his hosting to our firm and then a year later was of course not happy with us either. But that’s not important. What is important is that in the link to his new design and hosting company was a horrid website I noticed listed on their portfolio page. That website sold children’s books. One of the children’s books listed there was called “Obama, Our Hero”. Although I wish for nothing but success for our President Elect I was saddened to see this book because in my opinion it shows how deeply we have bought into the myth that has become Barack Obama.
That in turn reminded me of these words of warning issued to our young people at a Yale Commencement Address in 1962:
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie — deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.” – John F. Kennedy
